43 Things should do something about the "people subscribed to you" feature 1 cheer

Surely it’s good to know who is subscribed to your account.

I think it’s a very personal thing that someone has subscribed to me. I don’t mind of course, but I’d prefer to know who they are.

Of course all my entries are public, but for someone to read EVERYTHING I say or do feels a bit intrusive without knowing who they are.

Users that aren’t subscribed only read some of my posts based on context and location, i.e. they might read a post related to a to-do item they happen to come across.

But users that are subscribed to me, are interested in seeing everything I have to say (not sure why lol), and this seems intrusive if I don’t know who they are.

Should do this

You explained it perfectly!

Should do this

Thanks :o)

Should not do this

Don’t agree, I’m afraid – I see your point, but at the moment you can casually follow someone’s progress for a little bit, then decide they aren’t all that interesting (LOL!) and unsubscribe again without causing any offence.

Longer-term subscribers are generally fairly obvious anyway, as you tend to get lots of comments and cheers – and you’re interacting with them on that level.

Should do this

I can see your point also.

I think a hybrid solution is best then.

1) Have casual anonymous subscribers, however don’t bother saying how many subscribers a person has as it’s irrelevant.

2) Have “friends” who are more committed subscribers and have an emotional affiliation or commitment to someone.

But hey whatever lol

Should do this

I have just realised that it should be down to each individual user what happens with this.

e.g. a setting to say “make all subscribers visible to user” or “invisible”.

If subscribers are currently invisible and you change to the visible setting, then they are messaged to ask if they wish to become visible subscribers, if not they are removed.

This is only fair for everyone involved.

The users should be in control of what THEY want to happen with this.

End of.
