I would love to be able to find others who live nearby who share my goals. Perhaps it would induce the creation of informal study groups, or action on various projects.

I don’t know how I stumbled on this, but it is possible to view this. First go to the city you are interested in. For example: http://www.43places.com/places/view/106707. Next change the URL to http://www.43places.com/city/wanderlust/106707. Then you’ll be able to see 20 goals that a lot of people in that city have.

That’s a pretty cool find, although I’m not sure if that’s exactly the same thing being suggested here. ...but it’s still cool! :p
